Setting
The Vall d’Hebron Campus in Barcelona is a world leading healthcare park consisting of four specialised centres. They are in charge of the European University Hospital Alliance, composed of the largest university hospitals in Europe. The purpose of the alliance is to improve healthcare quality through collaborative work in terms of innovative experiences and management models.
Beyond 9,000 people work daily on the Campus attending to more than 1.2 million patients throughout the 22 buildings that make up the complex.
For this project, we have partnered with Telefónica.
Objectives
Improve efficiency
Operating rooms are the most expensive and important unit of a hospital. The challenge is for the operating rooms to work at full efficiency and capacity.
Improve safety
Ensure the identification of patients and their correct location at any time of the clinical process.
Improve patient flow
Identify and correct bottlenecks, time wasters and errors in the process.
Improve information availability
Each actor in the process must have what they need when and where they need it.
Eliminate verbal instructions
The goal is to automate daily tasks clearly and follow their traceability and prioritization.
Respond to daily changes
The surgical process is changing and must respond to daily situations in real time without causing efficiency problems.
Reduce energy consumption
Operating rooms consume a large amount of energy to maintain the temperatures and lighting necessary for the different procedures. The goal is to optimize the energy consumption between surgeries.
Improve the satisfaction of patients and their relatives
The lack of information generates anxiety in patients and their relatives, which is increased with delays in surgery or changes in planning. The goal is that family members and patients have information about the status of the process at all times without bothering healthcare professionals.
